Plan a rejuvenating outdoor escape to a National Park this summer. These parks are some the best to visit during the warm months and are sure to offer adventure and relaxation for everyone.
1. Glacier National Park
Glacier National Park is by far one of the most stunning parks in the U.S. Summertime is a perfect time to visit, because other times of the year temps drop below freezing. Stay in Whitefish Montana for great hotels, and food scene. Fun activities to try are white water rafting on the North Fork Flathead river, backpacking into the park, or hiking to a glacier. A drive up Going to the Sun Road to the other side of the park is full of jaw dropping views with cascading waterfalls down emerald green mountains. In the summertime huckleberries are exploding all over. You can go pick some fresh or get some huckleberry pie, and even huckleberry ice cream, you won't regret it.
2. Acadia National Park
Acadia National Park is a slice of heaven on the coast of Maine. Located on Mount Desert island its where the woods meet the sea offering picturesque views around every corner. Start your trip at Bar Harbor, the seaside resort town which is just north of the park for lobster and more along Frenchman Bay.
For fun rent scooters for around town or kayak the coastline to spot marine life. For the wow view, Sand Beach cannot be missed.
3. Mt. Rainier National Park
In the summertime Mt. Rainier lights up. The sunsets in the summer boast a majestic pink purple hue on the mountain. And that paired with all the wildflowers makes for a dreamlike adventure.
Hike the skyline trail, or Alta vista trail for hikes filled with wildflowers. For other outdoor fun you can go fishing along the Cowlitz river for rainbow trout or salmon. Rent an A frame cabin for a complete woodsy vibe. And Seattle is just a couple hours away if you want to extend your trip there.
4. North Cascades National Park
One of the most underrated National Parks in the U.S., also in Washington state is North Cascades National Park. Diablo Lake offers an incredible lookout spot on glacier blue waters.
For a unique experience rent a cabin right on the water at Ross Lake Resort. Take a scenic and quaint drive along North Cascades highway where you can find Cascade Farms for homemade ice cream and a winery with a backdrop of the mountains.
5. Denali National Park
Denali National Park is home to the tallest mountain in the U.S., Mount McKinley and many other natural wonders. Summer days can be 19 hours long, so if you are looking to make the most out of one day this is your place. The park is filled with wildlife in the summer so you will be sure to spot moose, eagles or bears. It is also another hotspot for wildflowers galore. Some fun activities are hiking, stargazing, and flight seeing tour.
